in character. FULL NAME: Julia Garnet Donaldson AGE/BIRTHDATE: 17/ January 9, 1960 HOUSE AND YEAR: Ravenclaw/ 7th BLOODLINE: Halfblood WAND: 11 ¼”, Holly, Demiguise Hair Core SEXUALITY: Heterosexual PERSONALITY: Julia Donaldson is a free spirit, an artist and a romantic. Cheerful and humorous, and decidedly eccentric, one who was not born to fade quietly into the background but was destined to stand out in the middle of a crowd. Her name literally means 'divinely youthful'; she's highly energetic and openly expressive with her emotions, one who is not afraid to confront her feelings in any situation. She has a constant carefree, pleasant air that surrounds her; her spontaneity- her tendency to never turn down any chance to be silly and have fun- can be very attractive to some, though such independence makes her seem removed to others. This trait misleads most to make assumptions about her character and think she's not someone who would take things seriously. On one note this may be true, Julia is also quite flexible: a chamelion. She can adapt to her environment when it is necessary and this allows her to gain a lot of friends in her social circles. Thoughtful and understanding, friends have used her ears for great advice and her mind for helpful input more than once in the past. Highly impartial to restrictions and rules, and has a particular dislike for curfews- thinking “as long as I'm not doing anything wrong, why should I be forbidden to go outside?” In her mind, she believes that any form of limitation will cause her creative mind to suffer, and she avoids any of those circumstances at all costs. Julia was sorted into Ravenclaw more for her practical wit than that of her knowledge of spells and hexes. She's a right-brainer, more creative than analytical, disorganized and impartial to order to the core. Sure, she's admittedly forgetful when it came to important dates (including birthdays!) and people in history, and has perhaps messed up more potions than she could count, but she does excel on subjects that she has personal interest in, whether they may be courses in school or not. Education is not the sole way once can attain knowledge, she believes. Hers is a curious mind that always wants to know, though she'd more often rather try to find the answers for herself than immediately resort to asking. Constantly curious, Julia always has a strong need to investigate things and make conclusions of her own, getting pure happiness out of working for the answers she's trying to look for. For her, it’s a small achievement on its own. One thing she is passionate about is Art. She believes she was born an artist, have been taking art classes since she was little, not because of her parents’ wishes but of her own. Her mother was an artist, too, and she will always be her biggest inspiration. Currently, she's working for her father's band, making their album covers and posters for shows, and makes even some for his Father's friends' bands. Her favourite subjects to draw are faces, ones that openly express emotion- particularly her Father- and her favourite media are pencils and water colour. She's also into photography, and enjoys taking pictures as much as she likes being taken a picture of. Music is not one of her many interest but because it was thrust upon her since she was little, it grew on her. She has learned to appreciate it, and knows things about it, not because she strove to know them but it was just so openly presented to her that it came naturally. She's always asked to set up her father's band's instruments- tune the guitars, check the speakers, do sound check on the drums- whenever she toured around the country with them during the summer breaks. She was not the most adept in this field, not the sort who could listen to a song then be able to play it in the guitar minutes later; her musical talents are limited to playing the keyboard, guitar and drums and by standards, she's mediocre compared to the professionals. The waters are a constant source of happiness for her. She loves almost everything about the sea, the feel of the water and sand between her toes during her late afternoon walks, the fresh spray of water against her face when the waves crashed below the high rocks she sits on by the shore. Living by the glorious seaside all her life has taught her to appreciate its beauty, and the mere sight of it leaves her calm and safe for some reason. At one point in her childhood, she even wanted to be a mermaid, just so she could be in the water for as long as she wanted. She has always gone sailing with her father during the holidays, and has taken swimming lessons since she was five. In Hogwarts, she's most often found spending time sitting just by the edge of the Great Lake in the late afternoons, watching the breathtaking sunset; it reminds her of her home, of her parents and somehow that simple gesture allows her to feel a little less homesick, even just for a bit. Julia has most often had odd occasional urges to take a dip in the Great Lake. HAS she done it? Maybe. Julia is pretty big on vices: smoking, drinking, and taking things a person her age probably shouldn't even look at. Her father is very open about these matters and knows every single one of her vices. What he doesn't know, however, was when and how often she takes them. She's not at all addicted to anything, though because she is well-connected and never runs out of anything, she couldn't help but use them. She has a fair experience when it came to romantic relationships, though it is not exactly something she takes into serious consideration. When loves is there, Julia opens her arms and welcomes it; when it’s not, she doesn’t look for it. A not-so-secret knowledge about Julia though is her attraction to one Gideon Crumb. He's considered as one of her weaknesses in fact, and this is known by more people than she would like. She shouldn't truly be surprised. His mere presence often renders this friendly, carefree girl to fold and stiffen, and sometimes even flee. This show makes her affections painfully obvious to almost every onlooker, and she sometimes hates herself for acting in such a manner even though she knew that it was something she could not help if she tried. She couldn't ever forget the time in her second year where they were loosely introduced to one another, though because of her instant attraction to him, she had never dared speak to him again. Julia's greatest fears include cockroaches, balloons (don't ask please) and being left behind. She is highly impartial to marshmallows, coconut and lettuce, but enjoys the taste of avocados and vanilla. HISTORY:Devastation and happiness wreaked the Donaldson household the evening of January 9th, the year 1960 when the family heard news of the birth of Julia Garnet. There was a new addition to their family, a beautiful baby girl with the bright blue eyes of her mother, but mere seconds after her delivery, it was also reported that one Gabrielle Jeanne Donalson, nee Gaunt perished after her last glimpse of her baby girl. Franklin Donaldson mourned the loss of his wife in the days that proceeded his daughter's birth, cried alone in his room and got wasted on alcohol while Julia stayed with his Mother. For a while, the man lost himself in his devastation; he couldn't eat or sleep properly, couldn't make music as effortlessly as he could when his wife was alive. He knew he loved his daughter; he was a big part of her and she, him, though she was so much alike her mother that just the mere sight of her brought about pain so intense he couldn't even manage breathing properly. It was half a year later when he just woke up in the middle of the night, around 2am, and just suddenly felt an overwhelming desire to see his daughter wash over him. Frank sloppily dressed in his muggle jeans and shirt, jumped in is car and drove off to his mother's house. He entered the house without so much as a knock, went inside her daughter's room, looked at her for a second before he took her in his arms and held her close to him. Julia didn't even cry as he held her. It was then that Franklin vowed to never leave her again; he swore to be the best father he can be, to make up for his absence. Since then, the two were inseparable. Julia was bright and highly curious, even when she was young. At one point, she had not let a moment pass without inquiring 'why?'- why his Father needed to cook the food before they ate them, why she needed to take a bath, why the sea seemed to stretch as far as her eyes could see. Franklin never truly had an answer for her that she could understand, neither did her Grandmother. Julia realized that no one seemed to have any answer for her that she needed, so since then, she had developed a sence of independence, a thirst to know things from her own observations without immediately resorting to inquiring. She poked and tore things apart just so she could know what's inside them, read books to find her answers (though she wouldn't wish to resort to that if she can still help it). For her, it was the mmost effective way to learn. The absence of a mother figure didn't affect her much, contrary to what people would expect, though this was because her grandmother made sure she remained present in her and her father's lives. Julia does sometimes wonder what things would have been like if her mother was alive, bit she doesn;t linger on such thoughts. Her father, Franklin however was enough to fill that gap already. He is her biggest influence, one of the most comical, good guys one can ever meet. The man was an artist, a musician and a poet- and safe to say he looks the part with his youthful good looks, his long dark blonde hair and his trademark sunglasses. He played in an Indie Rock band that toured the country during the summer. He's adventurous and ultimately carefree, one who rolls with the waves than go against the current- Julia is his direct female counterpart. In some way, her father is more of a kid than Julia was; he often spoiled her, tolerated and even encouraged her craziest stunts. They have developed an odd relationship over the years, growing up to be more like best friends than anything else. The most adorable thing Julia finds about her father was whenever the man tries to be more authoritative with her when her grandmother comes over for her annual 'inspections'. Franklin's attempts at doing so were poor, but endlessly amusing. Julia has a good relationship with her grandmother. She was the doting sort, one who believed that her granddaughter can do no wrong and showers her with much love and home-made cookies as often as she could. She was the one who opened Julia's eyes to Art, and paid for her Art lessons when she was younger. It was also her grandmother's decision for Julia to attend a muggle kindergarten, and study in a normal elementary school in her earlier years. Julia was never one who excelled in her classes, but she wasn't pressured by her father or her nana anyway. Julia spent her summers touring with her Father, watching his band play and getting to be the only minor that was let inside the bars. This exposed her to different sorts of people, and learned to appreciate different types of music, not just the sort her father's band plays. On the summer of her eleventh birthday, she received her owl informing her of her admittance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Wizardry? The first thing that came in her mind was, Can she make things blow up with her ~mind~ then? She didn't truly want to ask his Father, suspecting even at one point that he may be playing a prank of sorts on her, but finally she caved in. Franklin then explained to her her lineage: her mother was from a line of pure witches and wizards, but eventually got disowned the moment she ran away with him when they were younger. Julia found out then why she never saw anyone from her mother's side of the family, and figured her father has been distracting her pretty well over the years. She didn't feel any anger for this however, instead, accepted the fact and moved on, anticipated the things that were to come with an open mind. Her first trip to Diagon Alley, specifically to Gringotts, was quite memorable. It led her to discover that she had an account of her own, Vault 562, left for her by her mother. It was... a lot of gold coins. She could never forget her father's expression as he stood beside her, apparently as overwhelmed as she was. That same day, she took a few gold coins for her first shopping experience in the Wizarding World. She bought her wand (after trying out a dozen and almost wrecking the old man Ollivander's shop), and her owl, Peanut Brittle III. Hogwarts was perhaps the most exciting place she has ever been in; with its odd moving stairs and floating ghosts. She almost immediately felt at home. She was sorted to Ravenclaw, which came as a surprise to her after she learned what the house was famous for. It was also during that year when she met Malafda Hopkirk. Never has she encoutered a person she has clashed more with than her; they were at opposite ends of the world, and at one point Julia even considered them as different species. An artist and a philosopher. Even to this day, Julia didn't know how the two of them ended up as best friends, but Maf was perhaps the only person whom she could share every disgusting juicy bit of her being to and would not be shun or rejected. Sure, she'd get the teasing 'why-are-you-so-retarded' insults, but she knew those were out of love. Her next years in school had been most exciting; late night drinking sessions with friends, smoking in the abandoned school's lavatories and breaking the rules of curfew as much as she could. She gained a lot of friends in her stay, for which she was most grateful. It was with those connectuons that she has come to meet Gideon Crumb. She had spent most of her days doodling his name on her notebooks, then violently setting those on fire in fear of anyone catching what she was doing. They've been introduced once, though because of her instant fascination with him, she's made it a point to avoid him as much as she could. She doesn't understand why she liked him, or why she acted like such a spaz around the other, but she did. There was nothing much she could do about the situation. Julia studied when she can and wreaked as much havoc as she can in Filch's life while in Hogwarts, and toured with her father during the summer. It has become a routine for her in the past 6 years. Now, it's her final year at Hogwarts, and she's planning on going out with a bang. out of character.
